I met Volker soon after my first stroke, at the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham, in February of 2002. Having lost the functional use of my left side I was wheeled into the Physiotherapy room where Volker and his team were putting stroke survivors through their paces.
He immediately gave me hope of recovery and has been a constant source of strength and encouragement at the hospital and, since my discharge, at my home.
